Walkley Wood Cottage
Venue Setting
Tucked along a sleepy road in the Stroud Valleys, this Grade-II listed cottage among the rolling Cotswold hills is an idyllic escape for a family of four. The place ticks all the boxes on the country-home checklist: wood-burning stove, farmhouse-style kitchen, timber beams and a gorgeous squashy sofa for snuggling up on when the temperature drops. Put together a ploughman’s lunch to be enjoyed outside (the cutlery’s in the drawer at the end of the dining table, in case you can’t find it). There’s a courtyard with a bistro set for two, among a tangle of wildflowers and foliage. Before heading out. sit down with a cup of tea against a bucolic backdrop, then stroll into Nailsworth – it’s only a ten-minute walk away – handy if you’ve forgotten the biscuits. A smattering of pubs and restaurants take care of mealtimes but if you’d prefer to flex your culinary skills, pick up local produce from Stroud’s acclaimed Farmers’ Market, a fifteen-minute drive from your doorstep. And when you’re ready to walk off the one too many hunks of Double Gloucester cheese, a number of bridleways and footpaths surround your abode.
