A remarkable experience unfolds each evening in the fire-lit 18th Century dining rooms of Winvian Farm’s renowned Litchfield Hills restaurant, The Restaurant at Winvian Farm, where simplicity and indulgence artfully converge to create the ultimate fine dining experience.

The Restaurant at Winvian Farm’s Executive Chef Chris Eddy creates fresh and spontaneous farm-to-table menus, each dish imaginative in its beauty and flavor, a luscious handcrafted gift of seasonal ingredients from Winvian Farm’s own organic gardens. To complement your culinary experience we have created an eclectic selection of wines in our wine cellar, having assembled wines from 13 countries and 37 regions including biodynamic, sustainable and organic. The grand finale: a flight of surprising seasonal desserts from our award-winning Pastry Chef, Selena Gearinger.

It is this coming-together of romantic setting and divine cuisine that has earned us five AAA Diamonds and membership in Relais & Chateaux, a fellowship of the most outstanding hotels and luxury restaurants around the world. We are tremendously proud to be counted among such esteemed company.

In 1775, Dr. Seth Bird, an eccentric but respected physician known for bringing a coffin along on his house calls, built a home for himself and his family in the Litchfield Hills of Connecticut. It was a white clapboard beauty, aproned with meadows and woods, and a comfort and sustenance for the generations.

In 1948, the Smith family bought the historic Bird estate and named it Win-Vian, a combination of the first names of Winthrop Smith and his wife Vivian. They raised a beloved son, bounteous fruit and vegetables, and livestock on the property (today the luxury Spa stands where the pigpens once did but offers a rather nicer kind of mud treatment). When Win died, Vivian married Charles McVay, captain of the USS Indianapolis, whose riveting story is detailed in the book “In Harm’s Way.”

With the addition of eighteen individually designed luxury cottages and Hadley Suite, Winvian Farm remains in the Smith family today, lovingly restored by Maggie Smith, her daughter Heather and son Win Smith III into a luxurious, unconventional

At Winvian Farm, every day can be as active or as idle as you wish. All 113 acres of the Litchfield, Connecticut estate are yours to play upon. Mountain bikes and cruisers stand at the ready for long jaunts around town or enjoy a stroll to the luxury Spa to be pampered and rejuvenated.

The woods are lovely, leafy and deep, our lawns and meadows wide… all for hiking or snowshoeing, croquet, volleyball, bocce ball, hot air ballooning, and allow for countless simple pleasures, many within a small radius of Winvian Farm, like fishing, kayaking, canoeing, tennis, golf, and horseback riding. Or simply indulge the senses in Winvian Farm’s organic gardens.

Come wind, come weather, the Games Room has a salon-sized pool table, foosball, table-top shuffleboard, and a handsome full bar stocked with craft beers, single malts, or wine tastings from Winvian Farm’s Wine Cellar, so you can practice the fine art of drinks by the fire with treats from Winvian Farm’s farm-to-table cuisine.
