Tucked into the vast rolling hills of Tuscany, perched just above bustling Florence, sits an historic cobblestone castle with gorgeous architectural details and stunning views of the idyllic Italian countryside. Castello Di Vincigliata dates all the way back to 1031 and has the raw, weathered backdrops that suggest a history filled with stories. In fact, a visit to this castle will uncover many legends of families who once dwelled in the sprawling manse.

Fast-forward to modern day and the castle proves a gorgeous canvas for a classic Florentine wedding. No need for much décor when you're in a setting that stuns every time you turn a corner! Mango Studios recently traveled to the hills of Tuscany to capture a wedding at Castello Di Vincigliata and shares all the details below about this stunner of a day. This may just be the stuff Italian wedding dreams are made of, folks.

Tell us a little about the couple and how you became a part of their wedding :)

What I love about being a destination wedding photographer is having access to the world’s MOST breathtaking destinations AND getting to experience it with our amazing couples. The moment Erin and Winston mentioned Italy as their wedding destination, we were all in! We have been very fortunate to work with some amazing couples in the past and as soon as we met these two we knew they would be no exception. The two are amazing in their own right: each with a great sense of humour, and an impeccable sense of style.

Why did the couple choose Castello Di Vincigliata for their wedding?

Who wouldn’t love to get hitched at a huge, romantic castle? Castello di Vincigliata is a true medieval masterpiece. With sweeping views of the rolling Tuscan hills, its old world charm and aged cobblestone make an incredible backdrop for a wedding. The regality of this venue is perfect for couples planning a modern wedding that seeks inspiration from the past. And that is precisely what Erin and Winston did for theirs.

What was your favorite part of shooting at this location?

So much has been written about the beauty of Florence. Its emerald hills and ancient architecture are brimming with ample historic and natural splendor. Castello Di Vincigliata is one of my all-time favorite destination wedding venues because, you truly feel immersed in medieval Italy. Located far from the hordes of tourists, this venue retains a rural Florentine ambiance. Sitting at the top of a hill, hazy light shines through the open windows, through them you can see the lush greenery of the rolling hills and the meticulously landscaped gardens: everywhere you look there’s a photo-worthy backdrop. The dreamy light coming through the open windows is a real treat and results in some seriously airy wedding photographs. Photographing here in unbelievable!

Any fun stories or moments that stood out?

During Erin and Winston’s ceremony, I really wanted to pay tribute to the majestic Florentine views and the medieval architecture while still telling their story and let them take center stage in their ceremony photos. There's a wide landscape photo of the entire ceremony location from a bird's eye view. As Erin made her way through the ceremony aisle, my second photographer rushed to the castle’s tallest tower to take the bird-eye view of the setting. That photo is one of my all-time favourites!
