What happens when two art-collecting hoteliers pair up with a New York design firm and set loose on a historic Ford Model T plant? You get this beautiful, artistic 135-room boutique hotel in downtown Oklahoma City that doubles as a contemporary art museum that’s free and open to the public. Set foot inside the hotel—which was built in 1916—and you’ll notice historical elements woven in with contemporary and playful large-scale art pieces. The rooms themselves feel like your trendiest friend’s urban loft, but with Malin + Goetz bath products and cozy furnishings. The hotel is getaway-ready, with a spa and an excellent restaurant in Mary Eddy’s Kitchen x Lounge, which features fun classes like a hands-on charcuterie + craft cocktail workshop.

Fashion and lifestyle blogger Ally Noriega (aka Allyson in Wonderland) visited the 21c Museum Hotel Oklahoma City and she chatted with us about her staycation. Bonus: For anyone interested in exploring Oklahoma City—that’s OKC to locals—Noriega included some insider travel tips for visiting her hometown.

Hey Ally, what prompted your staycation?

After staying at the Bentonville location I couldn't wait for 21c to be in my hometown!  As soon as it opened, I checked it out!

What was your favorite part about your stay?

That's so hard to say! Honestly, I’m pretty obsessed with the rooms - I would love to move in! They look like beautiful NYC loft apartments. It was such a treat to enjoy delicious food from room service in my comfortable, stylish room. I completely forgot I was still in OKC.

Any differences from the 21c Bentonville location?

When it comes to the building itself, Bentonville is a new building while the 21c Museum Hotel Oklahoma City has a long history - it was originally a Ford assembly plant. If you visit on a Wednesday or Friday, I suggest taking their art tour to learn all about the building's unique design and history.

Both locations have delicious restaurants, museums that are open 24 hours a day, and penguins that “freely migrate” around the hotels (you can move them around as you please and even take them up to your room). Like all of the 21c Museum Hotels, the service is incredible and the staff makes sure that your stay is the best ever.

What are some of your fav spots in the surrounding area?

Nearby you’ll find the Chesapeake Arena for sporting events and concerts. For coffee check out Okay Yeah (it's also a plant shop) or Clarity Coffee... both are just down the street. My favorite restaurants in the area (besides Mary Eddys in the hotel) are Mahogany Prime for steak, The Jones Assembly is new within walking distance and has a great patio, Sidecar for drinks, 1492 or Iguana Grill for Mexican, Hatch for brunch... and the list goes on! Also, check out The PlazaPaseo, and Classen Curve areas for great food and the best shopping. We have a lot to offer here in OKC!
