Venue Setting

The Foundry is a 19th century building that has been meticulously restored to showcase its industrial character and stunning proportions. Adaptable for many uses and available to rent for weddings, private events, film, video and photo shoots.

Fine varnishes were originally manufactured here before it became the home of The Albra Metal Foundry in the early 1900s. Their insignia is still visible on the corner of the building at 9th Street and 43rd Avenue. By 1906, it was one of several bustling steel foundries in the Long Island City area that catered to the needs of New York City's riverfront manufacturers. By the 1970's The Foundry had essentially become an abandoned space, housing defunct vehicles and a mountain of debris. In 1980 the Du Val family purchased the property and restored and renovated the space to reflect its original industrial character and charm. In 2001 we began hosting social events, weddings and serving as a film location for New York's film and television industry. It is the only foundry in the area still standing today.

Today, the Foundry is a raw space that can accommodate up to 180 guests for weddings and special events. Our capacity for a formally seated dinner is 165 guests in the courtyard (which can be tented from April through November) or up to 125 guests seated inside the Foundry main space. In addition to the Main Space, we have an interior Greenhouse, Albra Room, Billiards Room and Terrace that each can be added onto a rental for alternative layouts and flows.

Venue Features
The Scene:

The Foundry Main Space is typically the first room guests see upon arrival. It has 40' vaulted ceilings, exposed brick throughout and iron beams that frame a glass roof. From April until October, our accompanying Courtyard is covered in lush green ivy. The landscape design company we share the outdoor space with also houses their stock of greenery and flowering plants in the Courtyard, adding a beautiful backdrop to events that take place in the Courtyard.

Adjacent to the Main Space, the interior Greenhouse and it's white brick walls are covered in year-round petite ivy. Lighting elements such as light boxes surrounding the perimeter, two candelabras and glass bathroom floors with lit artifacts beneath add to the charm of the Greenhouse. This space is popular for ceremonies or cocktail hours and we also host dancing in this room as well.

The Albra Room can be used in conjunction with The Greenhouse for cocktail hour or it can be used as a larger getting ready space than what is already offered on the second level of The Foundry. Lastly is can be used as an after party room or an alternative entrance.

The Billiard’s Room (or Pool Room) can be used as a getting ready room for one part of the couple or it is also a popular after party option.
Lastly, the Terrace which is located up a staircase from the Mezzanine in the Main Space is also enveloped in ivy from April through October. Views of Manhattan and the 59th Street Bridge are enjoyed from the Terrace, which comes equipped with plenty of teak furniture, cushioned seating and a water feature. This space is most popular for photos but could also be used for a portion of the event.

Standout Venue Features:
We only host one event per day in The Foundry which allows our clients the flexibility to decide on which additional spaces will be used up to 48 hours prior to the event date. The Foundry main space can accommodate 125 guests seated for a formal dinner. We can accommodate up to 165 guests for a seated dinner in The Courtyard where a tent can be set in place from Apirl through November.
Extra Perks:
In addition to the rental of the space, the venue fee includes the services of a Host, Doorman and Parking Attendant who will be on site for the duration of the event. We also provide supplementary furniture, best used for a cocktail hour, as well as a selection of eight foot evergreen trees on casters we can use to create spaces and reveal moments.
Awards & Notables We are honored to have been featured in The New York Times, The Knot, Style Me Pretty, Brides.com and Martha Stewart Weddings. Our space has been used as a setting for films and television shows including NBC Dateline, 30 Rock, HBO's Girls, Sex & The City, Top Chef, Gossip Girl, BlackList and more.
Celebration Locations
The Foundry:
The Foundry, first floor and Mezzanine level comprise the Foundry Main Space and the Courtyard is inclusive of this rental. Additionally, The Greenhouse, Albra Room, Pool Room and Terrace can be rented in combination with the Foundry. Each space is uniquely beautiful and gives our couples options for where to hold cocktail hour, dancing, dinner, etc.
- View: The Courtyard is surrounded by ivy covered walls and beautiful, lush greenery, kept on site by a neighboring landscape design company. The Terrace boasts views of the Manhattan skyline and the 59th Street bride, creating a stunning backdrop for photos.

The Foundry

42-38 9th St, Long Island City, NY, United States

Winter in NYC was long, hard and bleak so once spring began to take hold of the city, celebration was in order. Creatives all around New York and Boston began planning the next Collective Gathering to bring together thought leaders in the planning industry for an intimate night of conversation, inspiration and a shared meal. Committed to providing a bespoke, immersive experience, the partners behind this stunning soiree gave it their all. Using The Foundry to bring spring to the city, the evening was accompanied by special touches like fluttering butterflies, gradient spring blooms and fresh yet comforting dishes. Inspired by Iris Apfel's trailblazing attitude, the evening was bold, fun and a little unexpected.

Hear from Francie Dorman and Britt Cole, co-founders of 42 North as well as Lisa Ashley, owner and founder of The Wedding Artist Co. about the design, detail and minds that went into this colorful party.

The Foundry

42-38 9th St, Long Island City, NY, United States

The third installment of the Planners Dining Club Series is here and in a word, it’s: spring. The PDC, founded, planned and always designed by Jove Meyer, brings NYC’s top creative minds into one space to share a meal and quality time with one another. A time to enjoy the fruits of one another’s labor, the series evolves with each dinner party to reveal a completely new creative vision. Jove meticulously planned this dinner party to happen on the first day of spring with the entire evening to match.

Hosted at The Foundry, New York’s finest gathered around a very unique table (more on that later) surrounded by flowing florals and candlelight to set the scene while Cedar Lakes Estate created a spring inspired meal complete with a create-your-own martini bar. We caught up with Jove to hear about every tiny detail that went into this larger than life party. Catch up with part one and part two of the series now →
