From tartan-lined lodges to glamping tents with martini carts, these aren’t just places to crash, they’re places to convene. Heritage plaid, canvas, wood smoke and a little Champagne sparkle, because camp can be both rugged and refined. If Camp VR were a weekend escape, this would be the map. Picture bunk beds turned boutique, bonfires turned dinner parties, and cabins styled with the kind of quiet luxury that feels half Martha Stewart cottage, half Ralph Lauren catalog. The menu? Wood-fired paella, grown-up s’mores, and a bourbon cider punch bowl that deserves its own merit badge.

These venues aren’t just made for sleeping, they’re also made for gathering. Lakeside lodges that double as wedding backdrops, glamping estates with long tables set in the fields, and cozy cottages ready for birthday feasts or fall reunions. It’s fisherman-core meets fine china, enamel mugs clinking beside crystal stemware.

Explore The Camp VR collection on Venue Report: search, save, and message real venues built for bunking up, feasting well, and gathering under the same roof (or sky). Because campfires fade, but the stories? Those last all season. Read the field guide below.

Location: Big Bear Lake, California / Vibe: Charming mid-century mountain camp with lake lodge energy / Good For: Birthday weekends, reunions, retreats, weddings, group getaways, family vacations

Noon Lodge at Mallard Bay is classic camp energy, polished just enough. This renovated 1950s mountain lodge sits on a quiet street near the lake and brings together rustic cabins, mid-century details, and the kind of communal layout that makes groups instantly relax. Think cabins clustered around fire pits, a big pool at the center of it all, and starry nights that naturally turn into late conversations.

Bunking Up: With 15 cabins sleeping up to 57 guests, this is a true bunk-up situation. Book studios for couples and multi-bedroom cabins with bunk beds for friends and families.

Why It’s Great for Gatherings:  Gatherings unfold outdoors: ceremonies by the original stone fireplace, dinners under the trees, poolside hangs during the day, and s’mores by the lagoon fire pits at night. Full buyouts mean the whole place is yours, making it feel like a private camp weekend instead of a traditional venue.

Things to Do Nearby: Swim, canoe, play bocce or cornhole on property, then head into Big Bear Lake village for restaurants and shops just minutes away. Hike nearby trails, spend the day on the lake, or stay put and rotate between the pool, fire pits, and picnic tables. It’s an easy, nostalgic setup for groups who want camp vibes but with comfy beds and chic bathrooms.

Location: Paso Robles, California / Vibe: Wine-country camp for people who plan dinner outfits / Good For: Wedding weekends, group trips, reunions, retreats

Windwood Ranch is what happens when wine country gets a camp schedule. Set on 30 oak-covered acres just outside Paso Robles, this is a full-property playground built for groups who want space and scenery. Think vineyard views, big lawns, golden sunsets and enough on-site lodging to keep everyone together all weekend.

Why It’s Great for Groups: Everyone stays on property. That’s the headline. Between the Ranch House, guest cottage, glamping tipis, and vintage campers, you get true camp energy with real beds. Days rotate between the pool, tennis court, outdoor kitchens, and shaded pergolas. Nights default to fire pits, long tables, and “one more bottle” logic.

Why It’s Great for Gatherings: Windwood is built for hosting without micromanaging. Host up to 150 guests across an indoor-outdoor barn, sunset pergolas, and open lawns that naturally turn into dinner-and-dancing zones. BYO vendors mean your food, your bar, your rules and all-inclusive pricing means no wine-country surprises. It’s less wedding venue, more greatest hits weekend.

Things to Do Nearby: Wine tasting in Paso Robles, olive oil stops, downtown dinner or or stay put and lean in: yoga in the barn,

Location: Leavenworth, Washington / Vibe: Mountain-town camp energy with a Scandinavian–meets–Bavarian twist / Good For: Group getaways, birthday weekends, retreats, welcome parties, creative workshops

Set in one of Washington’s most charming mountain towns, LOGE Leavenworth Downtown is the kind of place that quietly solves the “where do we all hang out?” question. Blending mid-century-modern design with an outdoorsy attitude.

Bunking Up: LOGE is designed around the idea that a hotel stay should feel like basecamp. With 26 guest rooms downtown and 8 riverside cabins just a short walk away, groups can bunk up without feeling cramped. Mornings start at the on-site café, afternoons are for exploring the mountains, and evenings naturally drift toward fire pits, fireplaces, and the beer garden.

Why It’s Great for Gatherings: This is a true indoor-outdoor gathering setup. The event space works for meetings, workshops, or dinners, then opens seamlessly to the beer garden for cocktails, toasts, and lingering conversations under the trees. Capacity works well for medium-size groups (up to 80 seated, 140 standing), and the in-house groups team helps line up catering, outdoor adventures, and logistics so everything flows. Bonus points for the attached Icicle Brewing Company, which pours an exclusive LOGE beer because every good gathering deserves its own signature drink.

Things to Do in the Area: Leavenworth is an outdoor playground year-round. Hike, bike, or paddle in warmer months; ski, snowshoe, and cozy up fireside in winter. Wander the Bavarian-style village for shops and bakeries, then regroup back at LOGE for beers by the fire.

Location: Phoenicia, New York (Catskills) / Vibe: Catskills weekend house meets low-key camp hang / Good For: Birthday weekends, group getaways, retreats, reunions, casual wedding celebrations

A laid-back Catskills classic with just enough polish, The Graham & Co. is the kind of place where the schedule dissolves the moment you arrive. Set on three wooded acres at the foot of Hunter Mountain, this 19-room boutique hotel feels like a friend’s very well-organized country escape—pool out back, hammocks swaying, bikes leaning against trees, and cocktails migrating from picnic tables to fire pits as the sun goes down. It’s unfussy, social, and quietly excellent at hosting groups.

Great for Gatherings: Groups spill naturally across the grounds. Poolside during the day, badminton matches turning competitive, fire pits lighting up at night. Indoor spaces flex easily for meals, meetings, or movie nights in The Den, a communal lounge built for board games, big-screen films, and cozy hangs by the wood-burning stove. With room for seated dinners up to 65 and standing events around 70, it works beautifully for birthday weekends, retreats that don’t want to feel corporate, and wedding celebrations that prioritize togetherness over production.

Bunking Up: The room mix keeps things fun. There are standard and deluxe rooms for couples or friends who like their own space, plus a Bunk House with private bunk rooms and shared baths perfect for friend groups who want camp energy without giving up privacy. A full buyout keeps everyone under one roof (or fire pit), and breakfast is handled on weekends so mornings stay slow and social.

Things to Do: Winter hiking, fireside s'mores, fish, tube, or ski depending on the season, or wander into Phoenicia’s main street just two blocks away. Woodstock, Kingston, and Hudson are easy day trips, but if you want to stay put... pool, hammock, fire pit, repeat.

Location: New Cuyama, California (Central Coast High Desert) / Vibe: Desert camp meets art school field trip meets wide-open silence / Good For: Retreats, group getaways, creative workshops, desert weddings, dinner parties under the stars

Two hours from Los Angeles—and a world away from it—Blue Sky Center is a high-desert gathering place where architecture, landscape, and quiet do the heavy lifting. Set between the Sierra Madre and Caliente Mountain ranges, this former ARCO site has been thoughtfully reimagined into an event space that feels expansive, grounding, and a little surreal. Think big skies, raw buildings, and sunsets that stop conversations mid-sentence.

Great for Gatherings:  Events unfold across indoor and outdoor spaces designed to work with the desert, not against it. Dinners feel more meaningful when they happen with mountains in the distance; workshops land differently when the distractions fall away. With capacity for up to 100 guests standing, Blue Sky works beautifully for retreats, creative gatherings, and celebrations that want atmosphere without excess. Bonus: alcohol is handled on-site, and vendors are flexible, keeping logistics simple.

Bunking Up: Overnight stays lean into the experience. Guests can spread out across Shelton Huts, an Airstream, artist dorms, bell tents, and dispersed camping sites. It’s ideal for groups who want shared meals, shared sunsets, and shared stories around the fire.

Location: Philipsburg, Montana (Southwest Montana Rockies) / Vibe: Luxury dude ranch meets Big Sky camp fantasy / Good For: Wedding weekends, family reunions, milestone birthdays, corporate retreats, full-scale group takeovers

Set across 6,600 acres of river, meadow, and mountain, The Ranch at Rock Creek is what happens when classic camp goes fully five-star. This historic 19th-century homestead–turned–luxury guest ranch delivers Montana like you've seen in the movies. Horseback rides to sunset overlooks, fly-fishing in Blue Ribbon waters, and evenings that end under a sky so big it feels staged. It’s camp but with impeccable service, world-class dining, and glamping tents that redefine “roughing it.”

Great for Gatherings: This is a true destination venue. With indoor and outdoor venues, celebrations can move from wildflower meadows to historic barns to candlelit lodge dinners without missing a beat. Everything is handled on-site: food, drinks, activities, transportation, so guests can focus on showing up, not scheduling. Whether it’s a welcome dinner, a rehearsal feast, or a reception that turns into a late-night saloon hang.

Bunking Up: Accommodations are spread camp-style across the property: Granite Lodge rooms, canvas cabins, historic barns and bespoke glamping tents. Everyone stays close, bikes between venues, and runs into each other constantly (in the best way.)

Things to Do: Days are structured like the world’s best camp schedule: horseback riding, fly-fishing, hiking, archery, stagecoach rides, ranch rodeos, and twice-daily guided adventures included. Nights belong to the Silver Dollar Saloon witbowling lanes, billiards, karaoke, movies, and cocktails on tap. Add bonfires, s’mores, live music, or fireworks, and suddenly the itinerary writes itself.

Location: Glacier National Park, MontanaVibe: Refined wilderness camp with a built-in social plan / Good For: Large destination weddings, multi-day corporate retreats, reunion weekends that require everyone sleeping on-site

Under Canvas Glacier sits on private forested land just seven miles from Glacier National Park and operates more like a temporary village than a hotel. Nearly 60 safari-style tents are arranged to keep guests close without crowding, giving hosts the rare ability to house, feed, and entertain an entire guest list in one place for the full weekend.

Why It’s Great for Gatherings:
The venue runs on a buyout model, which immediately sets the tone. Events are designed for groups who want continuity across the weekend, not just a single moment. Outdoor ceremonies and receptions accommodate up to 170 guests, while open vendor policies make it easy to plan everything from a catered welcome dinner to a full wedding weekend with distinct events. The result feels coordinated but relaxed, with guests moving through the experience together rather than dispersing between hotels, shuttles, and schedules.

Bunking Up:
There are 59 tents total, ranging from classic Safari Tents with access to luxury bathhouses to Deluxe, Stargazer, and Suite tents featuring ensuite bathrooms, wood-burning stoves, and private decks. The mix supports couples, families, and friend groups without forcing uniform rooming, and everyone remains within walking distance of the event spaces and communal areas.

Things to Do in the Area:
Glacier National Park provides the programming. Groups can arrange guided hikes, scenic drives along Going-to-the-Sun Road, fly fishing on the Flathead River, rafting excursions, or private photography tours, all coordinated through the camp’s adventure team. Between outings, guests regroup at camp for meals, fires, and downtime, keeping the weekend centered rather than fragmented.

Location: Elkhorn, Wisconsin (Lake Wandawega) / Vibe: Historic lakeside camp with Prohibition lore and a manifesto of low expectations / Good For: weddings weekends with a built-in storyline, creative workshops that need a setting with character, product launches that photograph like a vintage field guide

Camp Wandawega is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it behaves like it. This is an old resort turned church camp turned living archive, set at the end of a dead-end road on a private lake. It is deliberately analog, proudly imperfect, and obsessed with the details that make guests feel like they stepped into another decade.

Why It’s Great for Gatherings:
The property is built for groups that prefer personality over polish. Host up to 150 guests outdoors, then use the camp’s distinct zones to keep the weekend moving: the Outdoor Chapel for ceremonies, an old tennis court that now functions as the tent-ready reception pad, and fire pits that make the afterparty feel like a tradition. There is no in-house food and beverage, so planners can bring in a catering team that matches the mood, from supper-club style dinners to grilled camp classics.

Bunking Up:
Overnight stays are a mix of vintage cabins, cottages, a dorm-style bunkhouse, and camping, sleeping up to about 50 guests on-site. That lodging count makes Wandawega especially strong for wedding parties, immediate family, and VIP guests, while everyone else can stay nearby and still spend the full day at camp.

Things to Do in the Area:
On property, the activity list reads like a grown-up recreation hall: archery targets, shuffleboard, horseshoes, boating and fishing, swimming off the private piers, and trails that loop through the woods. The game room and “Wardrobe Department” also deserve a mention because they turn downtime into content, in the best possible way, and the cedar barrel sauna gives the weekend a reset button. If the owner David is around, ask for a history walk-through and you will leave with better stories than your guests.

Location: Methow Valley, WashingtonVibe: Classic mountain lodge with a polished events infrastructure / Good For: Holiday dinner parties, large wedding weekends, conferences that want scenery built in, multi-generational reunions

Set above the Methow Valley with wide-open views and a long-standing reputation for hosting, Sun Mountain Lodge is a scale-forward property that knows how to run a room. With multiple indoor and outdoor venues, on-site catering, and lodging that keeps guests close, it works especially well for groups who want structure without stiffness.

Why It’s Great for Gatherings:
This is a venue designed to handle volume without losing atmosphere. Host up to 300 guests across spaces like The Bluff, Upper Lawn, or the Pasayten Ballroom, then pivot indoors for dinners, fireside receptions, or late-evening programming. The in-house culinary team, bar service, linens, and setup remove guesswork, which is why Sun Mountain consistently lands on planners’ shortlists for complex, multi-day events. We previously paired the Lodge for holiday hosting inspiration in Blood Orange Champagne, Old Movies and the Theatre of the Holiday Table by the founder of Le Supper Club, citing its wine cellar dinners, library firesides, and alpine setting as ideal for seasonal gatherings.

Bunking Up:
The property offers 96 lodge rooms plus 16 private cabins near Patterson Lake, allowing large groups to stay entirely on-site. Cabin buyouts work well for intimate sub-events or family clusters, while lodge rooms keep conference-style groups efficient and connected.

Things to Do in the Area:
Sun Mountain doubles as an activity hub. Guests can cross-country ski directly from the lodge, snowshoe and ice fish in winter, or hike, bike, boat, and paddle through the warmer months. Between sessions, the game room, spa, and lake access give groups natural ways to break up the schedule without leaving the property.

Location: Methow Valley, Washington / Vibe: Architect-designed micro-camp with a deliberate, stripped-back point of view / Good For: Intimate weddings, elopements with guests, creative retreats, outdoors-forward group weekends

Designed by Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig, Rolling Huts is a modern response to camping, not a resort attempting to be rustic. Set on twenty acres near the Methow River, the property trades excess for intention, offering a focused setting where architecture, landscape, and group energy do the heavy lifting.

Why It’s Great for Gatherings:
Rolling Huts works best for events that value scale control and cohesion. Groups rent the entire property for a minimum stay, creating a contained environment where ceremonies, dinners, and daytime programming happen within a compact footprint. With capacity up to 100 outdoors and open catering policies, it suits weddings, vow renewals, and retreats that favor thoughtful design over spectacle.

Bunking Up:
Overnight accommodations include six minimalist huts arranged as a “herd,” a three-bedroom farmhouse, and seasonal Methow canvas tents. The huts are intentionally pared back with fireplaces, modular furniture, and no televisions, while full bathrooms and showers are located in the central barn. The setup encourages shared experience without forcing uniform accommodations.

Things to Do in the Area:
The Methow Valley is built for active groups. Hiking, biking, river rafting, fly fishing, and cross-country skiing are all close at hand, with trail access and river proximity shaping the day naturally. Winthrop and nearby Twisp add bakeries, pubs, and small-town energy when groups want a short off-property break.
